Baby, it's cold outside!

#2

I just thought I'd check the temp. this morning to post with my blog.

To my surprise...it is -9.

Baby.

It's cold outside!

So what do cold days make me think of?

Soup!

I love soup.

Don't you?

I think I will make either cheese broccoli (Nancy's recipe) or Potato soup for lunch.

What is your favorite soup, homemade or otherwise?
Do you know of a good soup in a can?

Guess what soup in a can we fight over here at our house?

No. Not cream of mushroom.
Not cream of celery.
Not even cream of tomato.....which is kinda good made with milk and lots of Saltines crumbled up in it..and some pepper.

Chicken and Stars.

That is the Holy Grail of Cambell's soups.

Those little stars just make us all so happy.

We all love Chicken and Stars.

I really would love to find delicious, good for you, soup in a can tho.

So send me your suggestions.
Also, send links of your best homemade soups in the comments.

My recipes are here.

"Beautiful soup, so rich and green
Waiting in a hot tureen!
Who for such dainties would not stoop?
Soup of the evening, beautiful soup!
Beautiful soup! Who cares for fish
Game, or any other dish?
Who would not give all else for two
Pennyworth of beautiful soup?"
~
Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

“Soup is cuisine's kindest course. It breathes reassurance; it steams consolation; after a weary day it promotes sociability, as the five o'clock cup of tea or the cocktail hour.”
Louis P. De Gouy, The Soup Book (1949)

“Soup is the song of the hearth... and the home.”
Louis P. De Gouy, The Soup Book (1949)

“Soup is to the meal, what the hostesses smile of welcome is to the party. A prelude to the goodness to come.”
Louis P. De Gouy, The Soup Book (1949)

Do you have a kinder, more adaptable friend in the food world than soup? Who soothes you when you are ill? Who refuses to leave you when you are impoverished and stretches its resources to give a hearty sustenance and cheer? Who warms you in the winter and cools you in the summer? Yet who also is capable of doing honor to your richest table and impressing your most demanding guests? Soup does its loyal best, no matter what undignified conditions are imposed upon it. You don't catch steak hanging around when you're poor and sick, do you?"

~Judith Martin (Miss Manners)
